Robust Custom Bearing Withstands Weather on Wheelchair Lifts
Wheelchair lifts on buses and trains must be able to raise and lower heavy loads at relatively slow speeds with utmost reliability and stability. Moreover, because they slosh through rain, ice, snow, salt and deicing chemicals, all of the lifts’ components must be able to withstand the most difficult conditions. Our customer, a manufacturer of wheelchair lifts, needed a self-aligning bearing resilient to all types of weather.
Our website intrigued one of the engineers working for this manufacturer, and a call to us confirmed that we had the right solution. Although the application’s high load, long service life and maintenance-free requirements were quite demanding, a custom bearing filled the bill. The result was a flange-mounted, low-profile ¾”-diameter bearing made of PTFE-composite bronze for extreme corrosion resistance. This very compact bearing with very high load capacity passed all of its rigorous testing with flying colors.
We offer bearings in press-fit, self-clinching, or mounted configurations, with plain or rolling elements, in a variety of materials. Bearings come in standard inch and metric sizes — including miniature options.
