HEAVY DUTY, CORROSION RESISTENT, SELF-ALIGNING, PILLOW-BLOCK
Requirement:
A manufacturer of commercial lawn-care equipment required a pillow-block bearing to replace the low-cost sheet steel retained self-aligning bronze bearing they were currently using. The bearing was subject to high load carrying and considerable shock load due to the aggressive use of the lawn mower resulting in early failure of the sheet steel pillow-block.
Solution:
- The standard 0.625" diameter aluminum pillow-block with an SAE-840 bronze self-aligning bearing met the dimensional constraints of the application.
- Load calculations indicated under extreme conditions a steel pillow-block would be required in place of the aluminum option.
- A sintered steel PB3 was engineered and a FSB-625 Self-Clinch, Self-Align bearing installed.
- To ensure full corrosion resistance, the pillow-block and the bearing retainer were both yellow zinc plated.
